A year ago it was big news (though not a big surprise) when the independent analysts at Sharket.com ranked Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort the #1 timeshare property for resales. Sharket evaluated hundreds of timeshare resale transactions to determine which timeshare properties are the most likely to sell at high value, and Saratoga Springs came out on top with several other Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts not far behind. Twelve months later, Sharket has released its most recent analysis of the timeshare resale market, and once again, DVC resales are dominating the timeshare resale market in 2016.
Following in the footsteps of rival Marriott International Inc., Hilton Worldwide confirmed plans this morning to split off its timeshare business, Hilton Grand Vacations. The timeshare company, which has accounted for roughly 12% of Hilton's total revenue, will form a separate publicly traded company. Under the terms of the separation, Hilton Grand Vacations will maintain a portfolio of appoximately 50 club resorts in the United States and Europe. Additionally, it will have an exclusive, long-term licensing agreement with Hilton to market, sell and operate resorts. The spinoff is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

About six months ago, Money Magazine published an article on the benefits and value of timeshare ownership. We weren't surprised to read about how the timeshare industry has adapted to consumer needs, making vacation ownership more practical than ever before, but this was big news for some -- especially consumer watchdogs who have been wary of timeshares in the past. Now Consumer Reports, "an independent, nonprofit organization... [that] serves consumers through unbiased product testing and ratings, research, journalism, public education, and advocacy," is lauding the recent changes to timeshares and revealing how vacation ownership is often a wise financial decision.
It's a big year for Disney Vacation Club members. 2016 marks the 25 anniversary of the vacation ownership program that now includes over 200,000 member families. The program, which has become wildly popular with Disney enthusiasts and vacationers over the past two and a half decades, now includes 13 uniquely themed resorts in four different states. To celebrate, DVC is launching a variety of exciting special events, offers, and new member services.
This Sunday marks 15 years since The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge opened as the fifth Disney Vacation Club resort. The Villas added 181 luxury units to the DVC portfolio and soon became a popular home resort for DVC members. Its success as a unique vacation experience is evident from expansion plans and rising resale prices.
The great savings and unique experiences available through timeshare ownership are nothing new to us -- at Fidelity we've been strong proponents of the timeshare product for two decades -- but an article featured in the September issue of the nationally-circulated financial publication Money reveals that the benefits of vacation ownership are making timeshares an increasingly mainstream method of vacationing.
For years, we've been convinced that Disney's Saratoga Springs is one of the most exceptional vacation resorts available in the United States. Its family-friendly atmosphere, convenient location, and luxury accommodations have made it one of the most popular places to stay at Walt Disney World. In fact, we're so impressed by Saratoga Springs' DVC villas that we even recorded one of our visits. But now we're happy to report that the independent analysts over at Sharket.com have ranked the Disney Saratoga Springs Resort #1 for timeshare resales!
