The rooms are truly a retreat themselves. The impeccable views alone make this resort one of a kind. The decorations in the room are a polished French decor that is quite impressive and its beauty will leave you in awe.
Visited by nearly 1 million tourists a year, Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, California is another hugely popular destination. This one-time maximum security prison famously housed the worst of the worst, including Al "Scarface" Capone, George "Machine-Gun" Kelly, and James "Whitey" Bugler. Also known as "The Rock," this escape-proof prison was originally used by the U.S. Army in the 1850s for holding war prisoners. In 1933, the Army gave Alcatraz to the U.S. Justice Department and it officially opened on July 1, 1934. Over the 3 decades it was open, there were only 14 known escape attempts; none were successful. 1,576 men were housed in the prison and no one ever escaped. In 1963, Alcatraz closed its doors due to operating expenses being much higher than the other local prison facilities. It is now open to the public for daily and nightly tours which are just a ferry ride away. Rumored to be one of the most haunted prisons in the country, it's no wonder so many people want to brave the ghosts each year to see all the beauty that Alcatraz has to offer. Check out one of the local tour groups and make sure to pre-purchase your tickets.
